Silverlake Conservatory of Music Hullabaloo

Last night we went to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music Hullabaloo at Union Station downtown Los Angeles. It was great fun. Co-founders Flea and Tree performed, along with students and teachers of the conservatory, and members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic string bass quartet. There was a great auction, and lots of, obviously, great music.

otto heino and sam maloof

Earlier in the months I had the great opportunity to attend a panel discussion at Bonhams & Butterfields with the brilliant ceremacist, Otto Heino, and amazing furniture designer Sam Maloof.

Both are well into their 90's and were surprisingly funny. They shared stories and answered questions. Both are still actively working and, if you are ever in Ojai or Alto Loma, they welcome visitors at their studios. So worth the trip. I will be planning to visit each hopefully soon.

Here are some pics from the discussion and cool items from the 20th Century Decorative Arts featuring Contemporary Studio Works Auction.

McCain Failin

My friend Alex made this a couple days ago and the response was so great he's moved it into sell-able ware. Love it! see below for details

here is a letter from Alex:

Friends and family,

Thanks to everyone who wrote back to me yesterday and this morning about the McCain Failin' image I sent out. It wasn't meant to be a major statement, just something funny to send around. Apparently my sister, Florencia, liked it so much she put up a shop on cafepress.com. Now you can get everything from a t-shirt to a doggie-shirt to a baby bib with the McCain Failin' slogan on it.

I promise to donate a portion of any proceeds I receive to the Obama '08 campaign.

Many thanks to Will, Shepard, and John (twitter) for posting it on their blogs-- and to anyone else who forwarded or posted it online.

Thanks a lot!

Alex
